The Dell Inspiron is a fantastic entry level notebook with great battery life. Their only drawback is that they are a bit bulky.
The Toshiba Satellite notebooks have a fantastic battery life of up to 6 hours, and generally are the best middle ground. They come with the usual 1 GB of Ram, dual core processors and more.
Overall, we would recommend the Toshiba notebook above all.
